What is a CPU?
A CPU, or Central Processing Unit, is the “brain” of your computer. It is responsible for interpreting, processing, and executing instructions to run the operating system and applications. To do this, the CPU fetches data from memory (RAM), decodes the instructions, and then execute any commands that the software provides. To put it shortly, it tells other hardware components what to do.
Goal of the Guide
This guide is to help you how to install an AMD CPU on your motherboard.
Steps
1. Locate the CPU socket on the motherboard
2. Open the latch to reveal the socket
Press the metal arm down and move it to the side to flip the metal lid up.
- For AM5 motherboard: lift the metal arm enough to remove the metal lid covering that is covering the socket.
- For AM4 motherboard: lift the metal arm upwards
3. Place the CPU on the socket
Hold the CPU on its sides and make sure to not touch the pins. Look for the small triangle on the corner of the CPU and the socket to align them properly. Simply place the CPU on the socket without any force and ensure that its secured in place.
4. Lower the metal arm onto the CPU
Bring the metal arm down to its original position. This will take a little force, so don’t be afraid to push down the arm firmly.
